NEWSLETTER OF No Limits Diabetes

Where in the world did “Kno-Betes” come from?  It is another contribution of Max Azarov and will be the “theme name” for 2011.  You may see it a lot.  “Kno” obviously standing for knowing your own diabetes.  Most of the counselors and older teens seem to refer to diabetes as “the Betes.”  Seemed like a great name for No Limits Diabetes. 

There is a good chance that we may actually see the end to “cabin fever” soon.  The weather has been teasing us from time to time (usually followed by ice and snow).  It is evident that several of you are thinking “summer thoughts” for we have been getting camp applications in.  The board was able to accept enough applications to fill 1/3^rd of the 2011 camp session!  This is way a head of 2010!  We had 4 applications last year at this time.  We have discussed new program ideas which will be firmed up the second weekend in April during Staff Training.  Speaking of staff training, most of the staff is firmed up.  We are excited at the number of retuning staff from last year.  We are excited to add another doctor to the staff, Lev Agarunov.  Lev will return to camp after several years.  He current works in Maryland.  Most of our staff is returning.  We are very proud of the experienced staff we have.  All of the group counselors either have diabetes or are very experienced with it.  American Camping Association regulations state that the counselor must be two years older than the oldest camper in their group so you will note that most of our counselors are a bit older.

One of the program areas we plan to offer is more lake time.  Spring Hill has a great lake and there is an area we can use at our campsite plus the “water toys” across the inlet.   Everyday swim or boating is planned.

We have heard that there are some “camps” where they never actually camp or cook out!  Can you imagine?  Well, we plan to set that record straight!  As is usually the case, there will be cookouts.  For some of the groups there will be a “camping adventure” of an overnight at Lost Lake.  Most who have been at camp have never even been there!  ANYWAY, if you plan to join us, best be thinking application.  Hate to have you miss out!

We have added a few more spaces, but things are filling faster than expected!

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO HELP!

There will be the first fund raising activity of No Limits Diabetes on May 7^th.  This will be a motorcycle ride to provide scholarship funds for the summer.  We would like to have teens and families at the stops.  One stop for the leaders will be camp but the main ride will be closer to INDY.  We do not know the route yet but will be putting information out as we learn about it.
