Seldon Jones passed away at the age of 87. He had served in the Second World War as a tank driver in the 8th armored 88th reconnaissance division. He faced the hard life of a 5 tank reconnaissence group which often found themselves behind German lines. This group of tanks freed a prison camp, fought in three major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. At one point they had fought so hard and driven so long that they had to replace his tank. All of this was done by a unit that never officially existed. Seldon developed diabetes later in life and was a great example of how to manage blood sugars. He always had an interest in the diabetes camp programs, particularly the Russia program. Seldon's wife of 68 years (Grace) survives. It was a joy to our office when Seldon and Grace came in often brought by their grandson, Travis, in later years. In the spirit Seldon had, his honor to famiily and country and his interest in our programs, a campership has been estabilished in his name to be offered to one or more teens whose parent or parents are in the military. The selection and amount will be based on need with preference to those whose parent is deployed.
There is a scholarship for teens with diabetes who play competitively
